Roman Catholic Church Records
Below is a list of links to the pages found in the work, "Inventory of the Church Archives in New York City — The Roman Catholic Church —
Archdiocese of New York — vol. 2." This compilation was part of the Historical Records Survey and published
by the Work Projects Administration (W.P.A.) in 1941. The Archdiocese of New York, for which this survey covers, contains the Bronx, New York and Richmond Counties. This is volume 2, unfortunately volume 1 of this project, which was intended to deal with records
holdings of other Roman Catholic institutions other than churches, was cancelled as the activities of the W.P.A. were discontinued prior to the
completion of that volume.
Within the work here presented you will find a historical sketch of the Roman Catholic Church in New York, background on the record system and its organization, as well as a description of the available
records for each of the individual churches that then, or at one time, had been located in Manhattan, Bronx and Richmond counties, whether defunct, or still in
existence as of 1940. Below are the list of pages with a brief description of the page contents where appropriate—Click on the page link to view that particular page.
